What this app collects
Sketchbook Runner is a game with optional online features — global leaderboards, ghost racing, live multiplayer races, and cloud backup of your progress. We do not require an account and do not collect personal information that you have not chosen to provide. Online features identify you by a randomly generated player ID and a display nickname: either an auto-generated one, or (if you sign in) the display name from your Game Center / Google Play Games account.
Data stored locally on your device
The app saves a small progress file inside its own sandboxed storage. That file contains:
- Best times and stars earned per level
- Pencils currency, purchased cosmetics, equipped cosmetics
- Daily-reward streak count and last claim date
- Tutorial-seen flag and your most recently played level
- Audio and haptic settings
The save file is deleted from your device automatically when you uninstall the app. So that you can restore progress after a reinstall or on a new device, a copy of this progress data is also backed up to our game server — see the next section.
Data sent to our game server (online features)
The game's online features run on our own backend (hosted on Cloudflare). The following is sent to, and stored on, that server:
- Leaderboards: when you finish a level or an endless run, the level, your completion time or distance, your player ID, and your display nickname are uploaded and shown on the public leaderboards.
- Ghost runs: the recorded movement trace of your best run (in-game positions over time — nothing from outside the game) is uploaded so other players can race your "ghost".
- Live races: while you are in a multiplayer race, your in-game position and the lines you draw are relayed in real time to the other players in your room, to run the race.
- Cloud save: a copy of the progress file described above.
- Sign-in verification (optional): if you sign in with Game Center (iOS) or Google Play Games (Android), a one-time cryptographic proof from Apple/Google is sent to our server to verify the account. This marks your leaderboard entries as verified and replaces your auto-generated nickname with that account's display name. We do not receive your email address or contacts from this.
- Analytics events: see "Data collected for analytics" below.
None of this includes your real name (unless your chosen platform display name contains it), email address, precise location, or anything from outside the game.
Data shared with Google AdMob
The app may show ads served by Google's AdMob platform to support free development. When you watch a rewarded ad, an interstitial ad, or otherwise interact with an ad, AdMob may collect:
- Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android)
- Approximate location (country / region only, derived from your IP)
- General device information (model, OS version, language)
- Crash data and ad-interaction events
We have configured AdMob to serve non-personalized ads only. We do not display the App Tracking Transparency prompt on iOS. AdMob still uses your advertising identifier in a privacy-preserving way (Apple's SKAdNetwork on iOS 14.5+) for ad attribution, but the served ads are based on context rather than your browsing history or profile.
Google's full data-handling practices are documented in their AdMob privacy policy.
Data collected for crash reporting (if enabled)
If you crash the app, anonymous diagnostic information may be sent to help us fix the bug:
- Stack trace and the build version
- Device model and OS version
- Approximate elapsed play time at the moment of the crash
This data contains no personal identifiers and is used solely to debug the app.
Data collected for analytics
Anonymous events about what's happening in the app — levels started/completed/failed, cosmetics purchased, daily rewards claimed, ads watched — tagged with the random player ID, a session ID, the platform (iOS/Android), and the app version. We use this to balance the difficulty curve and decide what content to build next. We do not link these events to your real identity.
What this app does NOT collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any contact info (your leaderboard nickname is auto-generated, or the display name you already chose on Game Center / Play Games).
- We do not access your camera, microphone, photos, or location (other than the country-level signal AdMob uses for ad delivery).
- We do not sell any data to third parties.
- We do not allow in-app purchases — there is no payment information to collect.
Children's privacy
This app is rated 9+ on the App Store. The non-personalized ad configuration is intentionally chosen to be compatible with audiences that include older children. However:
- We do not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children.
- We do not direct the app to children under 13 in a way that would trigger COPPA disclosures.
- Parents who believe their child has provided personal information should contact us (see below) and we will delete the relevant data.
Your choices
- Reset advertising identifier: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
- Limit ad tracking: the same settings have a "Limit Ad Tracking" toggle.
- Stop using the app: uninstall and all local save data is removed from your device.
- Delete your online data: uninstalling does not remove server-side data (cloud save, leaderboard times, ghost runs, analytics events). Email us (below) and we will delete it.
Changes
If we update this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be called out in app or via the App Store listing.
